Butt Jointing of Prefabricated Concrete Columns

In response to housing shortages in densely inhabited urban areas, there is a search for structural engineering solutions serial and modular construction. Prefabricated concrete columns can make an important difference. Using industrial manufacturing processes, it possible produce highly loadable, durable true-to-size that enable accelerated construction progress dismantling or reuse of the components at end structure’s economic life. However, are challenges designing detachable connection between loaded due undesired reduction load-bearing capacity on one hand high sensitivity geometrical deviations other hand. To investigate deformation behaviour butt-jointed columns, large-scale component tests as well three-dimensional numerical analyses using finite element method were carried out. The show measures increase stiffness joint, such thicker steel plates, lower mortar thickness, etc., lead ultimate load. It could also be demonstrated very sensitive unevenness faces. Finally, investigations allow first conclusions design detailing compression connections prefabricated columns.
